Grown With Love on Our Family Farm
At My Microgreens Farm we don’t grow in acres. We grow in square feet.
When I was a child, my parents always had a garden. It was almost 3,000 square feet, which is about 0.07 acre. I was given a fraction of that space to grow on my own. It was no more than two square feet, barely large enough to grow a couple of Chrysanthemums, a few Sweet Williams, and a strawberry plant or two. It was a small garden, but it grew big ideas!
My small garden manifested itself into the big idea of a farm, where I wouldn’t have to get my hands dirty. I wouldn’t have to wait for the weather to turn or the soil to dry. I wouldn’t have to till the fields or add amendments or compost to the soil. Wouldn’t have to build the beds, weed or apply pesticides. Instead, I would grow in a controlled environment, where I could manipulate the temperature to a balmy 75°F and the humidity to under 50%.
There would be a constant circulation of air and the water would be clean and pure. I could grow 365 days of the year and I wouldn’t have to worry about the seasons changing. I would tend to the crops just a few hours each day and have delicious and nutritious plants ready for consumption in 7 to 14 days for delivery to homes, offices, farmers markets, restaurants, supermarkets, health food stores, and juice bars.
I would be able to accomplish all of this in less than 800 square feet, and I would be able to provide fresh produce to the whole community, and not just my immediate family.
I love this big dream that’s coming to fruition, and growing microgreens, with love, on our family farm!!
